SCREEN DAILY: OneTwoThree Media has boarded That One Beautiful Day at Cannes 2025
Los Angeles, CA, May 2025 – Production has officially wrapped on That One Beautiful Day, a poignant dramedy starring Academy Award® winner Mira Sorvino (Romy and Michele, American Crime Story, Sound of Freedom, Shining Vale) and Christopher Backus (Black Bird, Mindhunter, Dirty Angels, Daft State) and directed by Melora Walters (Magnolia, Boogie Nights). The film’s supporting cast includes Mario Van Peebles (Ali, Baadasssss!, New Jack City ).
US based OneTwoThree Media will handle worldwide sales rights to the film with VP Sales Alan Green set to introduce to domestic and international buyers at the Marché du Film in Cannes. OneTwoThree Media will be located at F12 in the Riviera Hall during this year’s industry gathering.
That One Beautiful Day tells the story of a divorced couple, portrayed by real-life spouses Sorvino and Backus, who reunite years after the unresolved disappearance of their eight-year-old child. Their encounter stirs deeply buried emotions and unspoken truths in this emotionally-charged narrative. Adapted from the stage play Baggage Check by award-winning playwright and screenwriter Charles Erven, the film explores themes of love, grief, forgiveness, and transcendence. Walters brings a painterly eye to the film, navigating the characters’ journey with humor, pathos and striking honesty.
This marks Walters’ fourth feature directorial effort. Her previous film, Drowning, premiered at the Rome Film festival and earned her the Best Director Award at The Marateale in Italy.
That One Beautiful Day is produced by Giovanni J. Guidotti of Vanitas Vanitatum Entertainment, Dwjuan F. Fox (The Woman in the Yard) of Decipher Entertainment, and David M. Hirsch. Guidotti also Executive Produces and finances the film.

Mira Sorvino, widely celebrated for her Oscar®- and Golden Globe®-winning performance in Mighty Aphrodite, continues to shine in a variety of acclaimed roles across film and television. Chris Backus, known for standout performances in Black Bird and Mindhunter, delivers his signature depth in this compelling project. Sorvino and Backus recently collaborated on the thriller Daft State, now streaming on Apple & Prime Video. Sorvino will next be seen in the feature Signing Tony Raymond and Backus will be appearing in the thriller Bunker.
